Alfred Williams Anthony (1860-1939) graduated from the Cobb Divinity School, then affiliated with Bates College, in 1885. Following additional study at Brown and Berlin University and a pastorate in Bangor, he returned to Cobb Divinity School in 1890 to become Chair of New Testament Exegesis and Criticism.
