Two manuscript minute books, labeled volumes 3 and 4, containing the proceedings of the annual meetings of the New Hampshire Charitable Society. Volume 3 includes a copy of the Act of incorporation and the Rules and bylaws of the Society. Also included are records of annual elections of directors, officers, and committee members, treasurers' reports, lists new members, receipt of legacies, appropriations for gravestones and related fences, and lists of individual recipients of charitable money. The records specify the towns of residence of many individuals. Loosely inserted into the books were the following 8 items: Typewritten letter dated March 11, 1916 from A.W. Anthony, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer of the General Conference of Free Baptists to Rev. E. W. Cummings of Kittery Point, Maine discussing the New Hampshire Charitable Society's fund and recommending Mrs. Mary M. Pinkham, widow of Rev. Charles L. Pinkham for a grant from the fund. A typewritten letter dated November 23, 1915 from A.W. Anthony (on the letterhead of the Union of Baptists and Free Baptists) to "all Free Baptists" requesting a donation to the Ministers' and Missionaries' Benefit Board. 2 copies of a letter, one handwritten and one typewritten dated June 25, 1908 from J. W. Scribner, President of the NH Charitable Society and G. O. Wiggin, Clerk to Demeritt Place on the occasion of his resignation as Secretary of the New Hampshire Charitable Society after forty three years of service. A handwritten letter dated July 6, 1913 from Mrs. M.E. Scribner to E. W. Cummings discussing a paper given by J. W. Scribner at the Centennial Meeting of the Society. The paper discusses the leading Free Will Baptist ministers and a copy of it is found on p. 103-112 of volume 4 of the Records. A handwritten, undated list of members of the Society. A handwritten report for the year ending June 1, 1908. An undated sheet evidently used as scratch paper but with a list of names and sums next to the names. A handwritten report for the year ending June 1, 1909.

The New Hampshire Charitable Society was legally incorporated by Samuel Runnels, Simeon Dana, Leavitt Clough, and other New Hampshire residents in December 1812. Alfred Williams Anthony (1860-1939) graduated from the Cobb Divinity School, then affiliated with Bates College, in 1885.
